Despite the long hours clocked in, 16 startups got together to make their pitch in front of a panel of judges and room of more than 140 people on December 10’s Startup Weekend Technology for Good in San Francisco. Both John Beadle, the lead of operations of Startup Weekend in the Bay Area and Wes Selke, Cofounder of Hub Ventures, give insight to what these two great organizations are doing for the startup community.
Judges included Adam Archer (Virtue Games), Alexis Giles (Co-Found, Director of Business Operations of DJZ), Jessica Scorpio (Founder, Getaround), and Jesse Farmer (Teacher, Dev Bootcamp).
With a great group of startups that includes apps that linked people of similar philanthropic interests (Honeycomb), help day laborers get work (Job Power), and on-demand and on-location haircuts (Cutsies), it was Herotica, an online social platform promoting socially responsible adult content for women that took the grand prize.
